Lilokawa recycles coffee bags into cushions, baskets, shopping bags, poufs...
Coming from a family of roasters in Rouen, Olivier was immersed in coffee, its flavours and its many origins from a very young age. Passionate about the recovery of natural materials, and a fan of decoration, Olivier began by creating his first objects for his family and friends.
And then one day, he turned his passion into his professional activity. He met Ludovic, who was in charge of the ERDRE et LOIRE INITIATIVES (ELI) integration structure in Ancenis. They decide to develop together jobs in the sewing workshop of ELI by making beautiful articles (cushions, baskets, baskets with handles) in jute fabric from recycled coffee bags 100%.
Objects from recyclable materials
The philosophy of Lilokawa is to produce in a responsible and sustainable manner, according to the principles of eco-design. By recycling coffee bagsLilokawa helps to limit the volume of material to be treated in waste disposal sites. The bags are recycled at 100%: the jute scraps, a vegetable and biodegradable material, are used as mulch for the local green spaces.
By collecting the bulk bags of coffee from within a 200 km radius of the workshop, and then carrying out all the processing phases on the same site, Lilokawa minimizes transport and the environmental impact of its activity.
These bags are washed, ironed, cut and sewn with great care. They become beautiful, practical and robust objects on which one can find, thanks to an inscription or a drawing, the country of origin of the bag.
For some creations, jute cloth is combined with other textiles such as cotton (scraps of jackets), or, recently, with dralon for the range of poufs and benches. For others, the lining is made of locally collected advertising tarpaulin, ensuring solidity and waterproofing.
