NZITOa small Tanzanian company behind amazing creations using reclaimed wood from stranded ships
It was born in 2000, when an Australian-Kenyan designer, Nicola Swynnerton, had the idea of using d'former dhows*.The boats are made of wood, washed up on the coast of Zanzibar to create objects. The salt, the sea and the wind have given each boat a patina and a soul.
A team of Tanzanian artisans is now working on creating unique objects (frames, mirrors, candle holders) from these local and recycled woods, inspired by the shape of the material.
I discovered these quality pieces while roaming the streets of the "Oyster Bay" district of Dar Es Salaam during my last 8 month stay. I was looking for a gift to bring back to France. The NZITO showroom and sales shop had been recommended to me by a colleague at work.
The meeting with these objects and Nicola created the trigger: not only did I bring back in my suitcases some magnificent gifts, but I also came back with a project in my head: the creation of Kabambi!
Kabambi is the only importer of NZITO items in Europe. You won't find them for sale anywhere else! Kabambi imports this collection directly, without any intermediary.
You will see that these pieces, in addition to being unique and beautiful, are of very high quality.
